Happy Birthday Mr Vivaldi!
Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice, Italy, on March 4th, 1768. Antonio's father, a barber before becoming a violinist, taught the young Antonio to play the violin.
At the age of 25, Antonio ordained a priest and soon after became known as "The Red Priest" because of his red hair. Due to his health, he left the priesthood in 1703 after only 3 years.
Vivaldi's music is joyful and very popular. "The Four Seasons" was composed in 1723 as a set of four concertos for violin. It is his most popular work and is among the most popular works of the Baroque Era. For this composition he wrote sonnets to match each season.
My favorite movement is the 3rd one in "Summer" (presto). It is an amazing music that shows all the power of Nature. It is passionate.... For that part he wrote:
"...The Heavens thunder and roar and majestically
cut the head off the wheat and damages the grain"
